$1,000 hatchback budget Build.

Postby Brandonryan » Thu Sep 23, 2010 6:58 pm

Sooo.. My buddy moved to hawaii and needed some quick cash and told me anything over $1,000 i could keep if i helped him sell the car. Told him.. Why don't i just buy it for a grand and then worry about selling it later.. And that's how i ended up with this death trap.

it has a dirty title.. so.. Im going to put as little $$$ as possible into this.. and show everyone how little $$$ it takes to make a car look halfway decent. Including the $35.00 paintjob :)

even with the dirty title this is gonna come out alittle more than good, i can already see it from the little bit you did to the fender and that was with a spray can  .

Ah man, looks like you are going to have to change the main title to your other build. Looking forward to the paint work. I'm still learning....

damn to pay almost 200 dollars for a wheel and then paint the emblem red. looks nice but kind of kills the value unless it Was it done perfectly? I wish they made a red h emblem that would go on older steering wheels

the things people do... you got me man. surprisingly he did a great job painting it. Im afraid of doing more harm trying to remove the paint. I'll take a closer pic. its actually impressive compared to the other quality of work done to this car :)

I had some extra doors laying around with some jdm thin moldings. Put those on. Got rid of the 20+lbs of bondo in the doors.
Found on craiglist some 04 ex wheels w/good tires for $50.00

The hood latch was all jacked up, couldn't close the hood properly and the cf hood was all warped on the edges.
so i got some hood pins at a local racecar store for $11.99 and installed those. Now the hood opens, and actually sits surprisingly well.

My friend (a painter) said he would spray the car for me and re-clear the cf hood. in exchange for a few decals.. so.. thats free :)
So far.. cheap.

I removed the MSD ignition setup since it wasnt even hooked up. Removed the tach shif light. and installed a new EX cluster i found in my storage shed. So.. The car has a working speedometer now :)

i went over to look at the car today. Quarter panel has all teh bondo out of it. JDM thin moldings are on it. New front & rear bumper. Cf. hood has been sanded down and clear coated. Hood pins have been installed to eliminate the hood fitment issues.

The car is being sprayed Artic White.
Also picked up some Studded tires on 14in steelies for $100 :) going to try to locate some EX hubcaps now.

id like to make a mold of my BYS spoiler so i can have a replica of the wing. Total cost on that wing would be about $20.00 :)
Lets see if i have time :)

I lost one of the JDM thin moldings that goes in the fenders.. and i know you cant order just 1. So i ordered some clear marker lights to go in the holes. Better then nothing i figure. those where $10.00

I got a OEM shift nob at the junkyard for $3.00 so i can get rid of this heavy greedy one.

well with this car i care more about my hand being cold from the nob then shifting fast. My fav shift nobs are Integra Gsr Leather Wrapped. AMAZING. but.. i settled for a stock EG nob. cuz it was $3.00

New photos of the $35.00 paintjob :)
